What reasonable steps can I take to better improve my household to be more environmentally friendly?

So far I:

– Recycle all glass bottles and jars
– Recycle all paper from home (and work!)
– Recycle Plastic bottles
– Take clothes to charity shop rather than chuck in landfill.

I am keen to both save money and resources by looking at alternative fuels, but I live in a tiny terraced house with a small garden so a wind-based generator and solar panels may be out of the question! Can I also make my car more environmentally friendly, as it is a petrol gulping 1990 ford escort!

What companies are the best in supplying Alternative Energy Generators(Solar, Wind…)?

I was wondering if one day I wanted to buy good products for generating energy from alternative resources like the Wind power and the Solar power, which companies are the best in supplying those kinds of generators?

I’m not just thinking of small generators for homes, I’m thinking of a bigger level too. Like for big industrial companies or even National level!

What does a sustainable engineer do?

what kind of jobs would they do? i.e. would they go out and fix wind turbines/install them?
Basically give me all the info you know about the career, as im interested in having a practical and ‘green’ career in the future.

How many wind turbines would it take to power the UK?

This isn’t a joke, despite how the question is worded 😉

To power the whole of the UK solely on wind generated power using the kinetic energy produced alone, how many of those huge turbines would we need to have?

Also, do you think is a feasible solution to the energy crisis?
