Your Questions About Wind Turbine Technician

Sandra asks…

How much money does a wind turbine tecnician make or can make?

I’m thinking of going into this business as a career move but cannot find information. What kind of salary do the people who work on wind farms make?

Paul asks…

Wind turbine technician training programs?

Hi,

I am hoping to talk to someone with experience and knowledge about the wind industry and how to get trained to be a wind turbine technician.
What are the best training programs and how do you choose a good one?
Are all programs created equal?
What makes them stand out?
Also I assume there is and will be a shortage of workers in this field?

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert, to my knowledge, there are only two college level accredited programs in the United States right now. One is in Southwest Michigan, at a school called Kalamazoo Valley Community College. They actually have a large turbine there and a two year degree program on turbine science and maintenance. I can’t recall the other school right now, but I know the one at KVCC was modeled after a program in Europe where they’ve been using turbines a lot longer than we have. Try googleing that schools name, once you find their website it should be short work to find the program and what its costs and requirements are. Western Michigan will likely be the next large wind turbine installation very soon too, Duke Energy is planning on installing hundreds of turbines along the coast of Lake Michigan. Take care, Rudydoo
